The R32 is ... ( 1 month ago by karmahunden)
The R32 is ridiculous.I drove that and it has no power at all; to the point that I would turn my head & look at my friend in the co-pilot seat with a "Is that all this thing has?" face while flooring it...thats how shitty it feels. VW are overpriced German hondas. The Evo we test drove was great; handling was the most surprising, the salesman made us do a tight circle to emphasize that(amazing); acceleration was good. The Sti had good handling & a very linear acceleration. Ergonomics were great.

We then test drove the 135i. Awesome car, handles almost as good as the Evo, better than the STi but accelerates faster than all & you can feel it. Problem is that 1) is supposedly cheaper than the 335i but when you try to finance/lease it, you realize its way higher payments than the 335i due to hidden costs & interest rates; almost as expensive as the e9x M3. 2) since its supposedly cheaper, all you getting better than a 335i is lighter weight, hence being a little faster, but ergonomics suck.

My friend has a G37 Coupe. Car has great ergonomics, its fast, however, handling is a little dull and not on-pair with the 335i, not quite. The VQ engine produces low torque at high rpms, thus making the car painful to daily drive/cruise. However, engine sound is like no other. Car feels heavy & overweight. Engine concept is similar to that of the M3 high revved torqueless output. I think a 335i, audi TT, LS3 C6 corvette or a audi S5 are much better purchases than the cars forementioned.

And that my friend is a much better review than the Australian car show above which apparently doesn't know shit since they picked the VW in first place. Idiots.
You drove the cars ... ( 1 month ago by CarAdvice)
You drove the cars for all of 30-minutes and made most claims on behalf of the salesman talking you into buying the car.
The verdict we chose was based on overall values such as performance, handling, price and more importantly what the car was like to live with day to day.
Although we do appreciate comments from armchair experts like yourself, you're better off leaving this to people who know what they're talking about.
Yes, I drove the ... ( 1 month ago by karmahunden)
Yes, I drove the cars for 30min, but you can tell a lot about a car by driving it during that period of time, especially if you pushed it hard like I did. I respect any decisions you could've made except one; which is putting the VW in 1st place. How is it better to live with day by day? Because it's smaller & fits in your closet? If you want to talk about Day-by-Day living, perhaps you should consider practicality--something the VW doesn't have. Take price per deal ratios for i.e:$30K for a VW?
No, you can't judge ... ( 1 month ago by CarAdvice)
No, you can't judge the car in its entirety courtesy of a 30-minute all-out test drive.
If this test was _just_ about performance, the end lineup would be completely different.
As we mentioned earlier, it is about the entire experience which includes handling, performance, price and practicality.
The BMW falls off the blocks courtesy of price, the Evolution is impractical - as is the STI. The R32 offers ample performance, is reasonably priced and is the most practical of the lot.
True, can't judge ... ( 1 month ago by karmahunden)
True, can't judge it completely but you can tell a lot. How's the STI impractical? It's a hatchback w/ a lot of room & a few amenities. The power of the R32 doesn't even come close to any of the competitors & you have to take into consideration price/deal ratios as I said. For i.e. a $100K BMW is a better deal than a 90K hyundai. VW are notorious for cheap finishes, bad reliability but great looking interiors. BMW/Subaru/Mitsu's extra $ is in performance, experience & quality (Mitsu no so much).

The spec.R is an upmarket version of the base model STI. It offers - in addition to the base STI - BBS lightweight wheels and Recaro seats. Power output and the rest of the gadgetry is the same.

wow...
Im not seeing the impracticality of the STi...
Basically you can take the kids to daycare, followed with a giant AWD burnout (or rear wheel drive because of the center differential :-) out of the parking lot, head home and grab the kayak, strap it on top, hit up some rapids, followed by a lovely off-road session. Then go home, pick up the kids, rape an R32 on the way home and then let the beast rest in the garage.
